LPWC Resolution 1-2017

In the Central Committee of the Libertarian Party of Weber County

May 20th, 2017


Whereas, the Libertarian Party of Weber County has held since its inception in 2014 that absent a victim, a person cannot be accused or convicted of a crime;

Whereas the Libertarian Party of Weber County holds that individuals shall exercise sole dominion over their lives;

Whereas it is long standing policy of the Libertarian Party of Weber County that medical decisions should be left to the individual;

Whereas it is the strong belief of the Libertarian Party of Weber County that all methods of treatment be available to individuals seeking relief from diagnosed illness;

Whereas it is shown through many forms of medical research and documented evidence that there is benefit for a myriad of symptoms and illnesses through use of cannabis;

Whereas the Legislature of the State of Utah has repeatedly voted down measures that would allow patients access to us of cannabis for medicinal use in whole plant reform;

Whereas the Republican Party of Utah resolved that as the majority party in the State of Utah they would not support medicinal cannabis;

Whereas there is support for medicinal cannabis in Utah among voters reaching 60% on average between polls conducted by various organizations;

Whereas the Utah Constitution provides the avenue of Ballot Initiatives when the Legislature fails to act in the best interests of the citizens of Utah;

Whereas organizations such as TRUCE are introducing ballot initiatives for medicinal cannabis to be accessible to Utah patients;

Be it resolved that the Libertarian Party of Weber County will support the ballot initiative for medical cannabis:

  1. By volunteering to gather signatures for petitions;
  2. By doing educational outreach at official events sponsored by the Libertarian Party of Weber County;
  3. By assisting TRUCE and other medical cannabis groups in efforts to find more volunteers.
